When Jane Luo and her husband began growing coffee on Yirong Farm in 1987, their coffee was among the first coffee grown in Menglian prefecture, in Yunnan. Today, over 30 years later, their daughter, Jean Luo is working with her mother, Jane, to take the next step forward and expanding their business into exporting. Jane’s partner, Song, is also involved in managing Agronomy and Farm Operations.

This coffee uses compost to fertilize coffee trees, reducing the need for chemical pesticides. The farm is watered year-round by a mountain spring. While coffee is the main crop grown at Yirong, the farm also cultivates tea, a common agricultural product in Yunnan, and corn.

Last year we purchased our first coffee from Yunnan. It was a clean, juicy filter coffee and the espresso delivered great balance of textures and flavors. At the same time, we were getting a lot of "I woudn't drink Chinese coffee" from some folks. Well, we're here to break those awkward stereotypes again, because this lot from the Luo family is amazing. Heaps of mature red and purple fruit, notes of black tea and sultana raisins, a clean cup of coffee. Yunnan region has ideal conditions for coffee growing and Sucafina have their coffee lab right next to Pu'er where most of the coffee and tea processing takes place.
