We‘re happy that we could purchase two limited edition coffees from our partners at Coffee Quest who‘re doing an amazing job in terms of transparency and sourcing green coffee. The Nicaraguan Finca Un Regalo de Dios literally means “
A Gift From God“. It is located in the Mozonte Munipacity of Nueva Segovia. Both he farm and the Beneficio Las Segovias coffee mill are run by Luis Alberto Balladarez Moncada, a passionate coffee professional and pursuer of quality.

Balladarez comes from the 3rd generation of coffee producers. Un Regalo de Dios is a farm locate just behind the Las Segovias Mill. The Finca sits at an altitude of 1350-1700 MASL. Luis Alberto and the family manage the farm together. It is a 72 hecraters of land and 52 ha are planted with coffee varieties like Red and Yellow Catuai, Pacamara, Maracaturra, Java, Bourbon and some hybrids. The farm is surrounded by a heavily clouded and dense forest that creates a colder micro-climate with cooler temperatures that lead to slower maturation of the coffee cherries.

Luis Alberto is known for his passion and obsession with quality within every step of the process. His team‘s main focus is to keep the processing conditions as stable as possible. The coffee is dried in shade. This Natural Pacamara was sundried in whole cherry for 30 days in about 30 degrees.

The slow drying in the cherry brings a lot of dense fruity flavors, a slightly boozy chacacter. Combined with the Pacamara, this cup is thick and layered and incredibly satysfying. It‘s changing every sip. Red tropical fruit, then orange-like, you get pralines, red grape juice, mint chocolate. There‘s a lot of things happening. As the coffee cools down, you get a lot more of the tropical notes and the mint chocolate finish.

The Coffee Quest started the collaboration with Luis Alberto in 2018 and their relationship is growing and strenghtening over the years. Un Regalo de Dios won the 5th place at The Nicaragua Cup of Excellence 2018 and it‘s been ranking high since then.

Luis Alberto Balladarez takes seriously the climate change issues too, as the farm is facing cherry maturation and fermentation difficulties. Each cofffee process is carefully monitored. They use organic fertilizers and filters to avoid water or soil pollution after depulping. The farm has a rich biodiverse environment of fauna and flora.
