This is your house blend

What is it?
We don't think that there's a fixed definition of a house blend (at least we're not aware of any), but when coffee shops or roasters speak of a house blend, they often mean a somewhat similar thing.

Our approach to a house blend:
-A balanced coffee in terms of the flavor profile that would attract customers that don't cherish acidity in coffee and lean more towards chocolate-like flavors.

-An equal parts blend of one speciality/microlot and one commercial/regional lot. In other words, a blend of coffees that are noticeably different in terms of their traceability, philosophy and last but not least - their cupping score.

The commercial coffee dilemma:
Traceability is the pillar of our approach when it comes to sourcing coffee. Not because it goes hand in hand with a higher cupping score (around 87). We never found the cupping score number that important when it came to buying coffee. We try to seek meaningful collaborations with importers and producers whose work supports local communities and the environment at origin. High quality of coffee flavor/cupping score number is of course important and nice, but we view it as secondary to the longer term partnership between the roastery and importer/producer.

On the other hand, commercial coffee often lacks traceability. It is cheaper, regional, anonymous and because of that it is vulnerable to be misused as a tool of financial exploitation of coffee producers. When thousands of coffee farmers sell cherries or parchment to one CWS, there's no guarantee that what's happening in that process is aligned with the producer's needs and values.

Why? / Who is it for?
Some customers demand a simpler coffee flavor profile whilst still wanting a rather lighter roast. Fully automatic home espresso machine users or folks/coffee shops that might struggle financially, but would still love to serve/enjoy good coffee.

In our house blend, you'll always find a 50-50 blend of a 79+ pts. commercial coffee and an 86+ pts. speciality coffee.
-Currently, it contains the regional lot of Colombia Supremo washed scr. 17/18 and Uganda Ndhew microstation natural SL14 community lot.
