Behind the production of this excellent decaf is farmer Haile Gebre,moved to the
Guji area in 2001. He inherited a piece of land on which he established his first
coffee farm and processing station where more than 320 neighboring growers
deliver their cherries.
However, several pivotal moments preceded the fulfillment of this dream in Haile’s
life. When he was 10 years old, feudal lords took away his family’s land where
they had been growing coffee, forcing them to relocate. He felt so betrayed that
his goal became to enter politics and change the opportunities available to farmers
who wished to cultivate coffee.
Thanks to his military background and university activism, Haile got the
opportunity to work between 1973 and 1976 at the Ministry of Land Reform and
the Cooperative Institute in Awassa. Unfortunately, due to his outspoken views, he
also ended up spending three years behind bars.
After serving his sentence, he moved to Moscow, where he studied business
management. Five years later, in 1984, he returned to Addis Ababa, where he
began teaching the subject at the university. He later became governor of the
Oromia region and founded the Oromia Cooperative Bank — with a specific focus
on coffee cooperatives.
This delicious decaf is processed with the CO₂ method. The coffee is full of florals
and citrus flavors (think jasmine, white florals, vanilla, lime).
